THE HISTORY OF LOUGH GILL DISTILLERY

Lough Gill Distillery is situated in a factory, a landmark of Sligo's industrial revolution, that was built in 1969 by an Italian company, SNIA, to make nylon yarn. The factory was then acquired by the South Korean company Saehan Media to produced video tapes. We acquired the site in 2014 because it was the perfect place to make and mature single malt whiskey. The factory is 6 acres under roof which is ideal for both production and maturation.

The construction of the distillery hall commenced in 2018 with the distillery equipment being installed and commissioned in 2019. We have built a one million litre plant producing 7,000 barrels of whiskey per year. We also have planning permission for a second 2 million litre plant, along with tours, museums, retails outlets, restaurants and bonded warehousing.
